"Sipper" hung up his boots in April 2008, his 20th year at Yatton Athletic Football Club, having spent some proportion of his time as first team captain. Fittingly, he wore the captain's armband in his final game and got on the scoresheet to sign off in style. Now as his playing days, and hairline, are over, he has stepped into a more administrative role, proving to be a dedicated and hands-on Chairman, a position he has held since filling the role from his late father, John Coombes who held the position for many years. Rich was always a heart-and-soul player, a constant voice on and off the pitch for everyone around him, and I'm sure we can all rely on his presence spurring the teams on for the 2008/09 season and beyond. Thanks, Sipper.
Vice Chairman : David Richards 07717 356563A former Reserve Team player, Dave had success as captain, leading the side to a league title and cup final appearance. Niggling injuries and a desire to leave his comfort zone (the centre circle), saw Dave progress to the position of Reserve Team manager in 03/04. Promotion, followed by a season of consolidation ensured that Dave’s years in charge were viewed as a period of achievement. After a season working with Chris Walker in charge of the first team, Dave was unanimously voted in to the vacated Vice Chairman role for the start of the 2008/09 season where he hopes to continue his work with the club.
Club Secretary : Ali Batchelor 07805 801807'AJ' has represented the club at both Junior and Senior Level (as well as the now defunct Sunday league side Prince of Orange AFC). He spent approximately five years away from the village but has now returned to 'the shire'. Being community spirited he gladly accepted the role of Club Secretary when it became available in the summer of 2007. His responsibilities include registration of players, arranging fixtures for the three sides and ensuring referees are allocated to matches.
Treasurer : Nick WilliamsNick can count. This was a major factor in his appointment as Club Treasurer for the 2007/08 season and he is continuing his work for the 2008/09 season.
Club Captain: Russell CoxChris enjoyed representing Yatton at all levels, firstly through the Junior club before graduating to the senior squad. After brief spells away with Cleeve and Wrington, he returned to represent the "A" Team and reserves before establishing himself in the first team only for a serious knee injury to bring his playing career to a premature end. Now in his second season in charge of Yatton's first team, many are tipping him to bring long sought after sucess to the club.
Reserve Team Manager: Darren Port
Ash was previously the first team's FA Players Representative and is still very much part of the playing staff. Injury had forced a premature end to Ash's playing days, however he made a surprise comeback at centre forward during the 2007/08 season and a goal-glut ensued a sharp turn around for the Reserve side, helping them to a respectable mid-table finish after a tough start to the season, together with reaching a cup final. This move has allowed Darren to move into a more managerial position on the sidelines and his presence is surely felt by everyone!
"A" Team Manager: Bruce Stone Website Admin: Ciaran Hall 07528 015755Baby-faced defender and first team regular known to duck the occasional full-blooded tackle. He Joined Yatton in 2003 after spells with Nailsea Town and Nailsea United where he acquired his nickname 'K'.
Website Admin: Dave Trevaskus 07891 555957
Dave has been a player at Yatton for a number of years, following the Prince of Orange Sunday team's amalgamation in the early part of the new millennium. Starting places have been hampered by many things, including niggling injuries, a season ticket at Plymouth Argyle but more importantly by a general lack of any real footballing ability! He’s proud of YAFC, and will continue to endeavour to improve its fortunes, both on and off the pitch.
Club Assitant: Andy Wesson 07748 117377"Gaffer" has been involved with Yatton in a coaching role for six years, and is also a former member of the playing staff. Having consistently developed a productive relationship with the town's younger talent in the "A" and Reserve teams, a more dedicated man-manager will be hard to come across. Andy resigned his position as "A" Team Manager at theend of the 2007/08 season and steps down with the thanks of everyone at the club. Andy will continue to work with all three teams during the forthcoming season.
